Details: Help serve elementary students and their Anderson public school teacher in an after-school tutoring/mentoring program.
A Heart for Kids is a faith-based, non-profit organization created to love, serve, and support children, their teachers and families in Anderson by providing a free after-school tutoring/mentoring program for early elementary students. The program partners with local public schools to assist children who are struggling socio-economically and/or academically to strengthen their reading comprehension skills and to build relationships through hands-on learning about God, Jesus and the Bible.
Volunteers (age 18 years and up) are needed to:
- tutor/mentor students in a 1:1 setting in the area of reading/comprehension. Every child receives 1 hour of 1:1 tutoring twice a week (tutoring time: Monday & Wednesday or Tuesday & Thursday from 4:15-5:30pm). Volunteers serve either once or twice a week during the school year to mentor/tutor a student.
- prepare, serve and clean up snacks to the children on a rotating schedule (3:30-4:30pm)
- help greet families and students for check-in/check-out (3:30-5:30pm)
