Brookside Church Food and Hygiene Totes 2023

Summary:

Many of the families in the Brookside neighborhood struggle with food insecurities.  Breakfast and lunch are provided at Indianapolis Public Schools at no cost, which children rely on during the school year.  However, during school breaks, many families do not have the resources or transportation means to provide food for their children. Many people in poverty or those who find themselves in times of crisis often must make the distressing decision to eat or stay clean because they can't afford to do both.  Hygiene poverty is shaming, humiliating and excluding and can result in social isolation.  Both food insecurities and hygiene poverty can affect good health and mental well-being which can impact early childhood development, learning, employability, and social interaction.  Ultimately this is about dignity, self-confidence, and mental well-being.  Each family at Brookside's Christmas Compassion event on December 9th will receive one food tote AND one hygiene kit.

This is a perfect opportunity for an individual, family, or group to help bless a Brookside family by creating either a food or hygiene tote.  Totes can be picked up at the Carmel Campus starting the weekend of November 11th and 12th in the NEXT Experience room and need to be return to that same space by November 26th.  To sign up to fill a tote or learn more about what goes in a tote, check out the links below.
